The Jekyll and Hyde, Birmingham

Jekyll and Hyde
Whilst its called the Jeckyll and hyde its got Alice in Wonderland stamped all over it! A very different place. Quirky!
Its looks very normal from the outside but the Trip Advisor reviews often mention how quirky it is. We love Gin and therefore the Gin Parlour upstairs with the tasting sessions sounds very appealing. The Alice in Wonderland garden/yard out the back looks fabulous. We cant wait to visit and the confectionary corner section of Mr Hyde's concoctions is where I think I will spend most of my money. Yummy!

Profile Description

Located within the Colmore Business District The Jekyll and Hyde offers something a little different when looking for a bar or restaurant.

An old boozer on Steelhouse Lane was taken over in 2009 by Bitters n’ Twisted, the people already behind Birmingham venues Island and The Victoria. After a renovation, a new menu and a big dash of imagination The Jekyll & Hyde was born! Offering a wide range of drinks, from the classic G&T to a cocktail menu of inventive concoctions – served alongside a fresh, homemade food menu. Step outside and you’ll be in the Wonderland Courtyard – a sun filled (sometimes!) city centre hide away.

Living up to its name the venue has two personalities – Mr. Hyde’s Main Bar and Dr. Jekyll’s Gin Parlour

Mr. Hyde’s Main Bar:

Retro sweetie jar and quirky sharing cocktails / Cask ales, beers and ciders from the discerning to the boutique / Retro Quiz Night – prizes to be won! / Mad Hatters Tea Party / Free Wi-Fi / Weekend DJ nights

Dr. Jekyll’s Gin Parlour:

Over 80 different gins / Eat Me, Drink Me food fusion menu / Gin Flights / Cocktail Chemistry Master class / Juniper Film Club / Mid week private hire.

From the outside it looks like a bog standard pub, the inside however is a completely different story. The atmosphere was great, the music was great and the cocktails are amazing. Its an unusual choice of cocktails served in a variety of different vessels.

Once upstairs, you enter an eclectic, eccentrically designed gin parlour, where you can embark on as many gin flights and slips as you can handle. We particularly enjoyed the highs and lows of the journey, where one gin sample could cause some fairly distorted facial expressions, worthy of Hyde himself, the next sheer delight. You would be forgiven for thinking that sampling so many genres of gin would lead to an expensive outcome, but in fact the bill can be incredibly reasonable.
