“No dishes are served without Garlic. You can always order extra Garlic but never less. As you leave the restaurant you should feel like you have been Garlic marinated. This is our mission from God” says the Olsson brothers.
Garlic & Shots is the sort of place people are either going to love or hate. In order to love it you have to firstly enjoy garlic, secondly be the sort that likes loud metal music and thirdly doesn’t mind a bit of rock and roll attitude from the staff and customers.
There are three parts of the venue. There is the small and cosy restaurant portion where you can order all sorts of dishes as long as they heavily feature garlic.
Then there is the beer garden out back where you can sip your shots and beer at a more leisurely pace. This is outside (as you would probably expect from the word ‘garden’) which can mean that in the summer it is a great place to enjoy a London evening but in the cold or the rain it can be a bit of a challenge.
Thirdly, down a steep set of stairs is the small bar area, which is a strange dungeon of sorts, where you can listen to ear splitting death and black metal. The prices are average, the food is good (if you like garlic!) and the shots are powerful. Expect to have a bit of tattoos and attitude.
Be warned…..if you order a pint of garlic beer, it really is a garlic beer. Its not just flavoured, it has garlic shavings in it. How about the garlic ice cream then? or one of the 101 garlic shots like a Bloodshot (vodka, garlic, tomato, chili and spices).
Whilst you will keep the vampires away…be careful you don’t breathe over someone you are trying to impress for the next 12 hours or so.
