The Cheese Society has been trading since 1997 and was originally created as a specialist cheese mail order company supplying farmhouse unpasteurised cheese to good food lovers.
In addition to retailing to the general public with their gift selections and individual cheeses, they supply top quality restaurants, film sets and caterers that appreciate good farmhouse cheese.
In 2000 they relocated to an area in Lincoln known as the Cultural Quarter and opened The Cheese Shop, located at 28 The Strait just off the top of Lincoln High Street. The Strait and Steep Hill were recently voted the best shopping street in Britain.
The unique Cheese Cafe is at No.1 St Martins Lane, just 100 metres around the corner. from the shop. They are a five minute walk down from the Cathedral and Castle and a 10 minute walk back up! It is not called Steep Hill for nothing.
The Cheese Society Cheese Cafe opened on 14th February 2001 and it has been an increasingly popular Lincoln lunchtime venue. The licensed bistro/cafe is small and intimate, seating just 34 customers, with a style that is light and airy with a continental feel. You can enjoy wine, local beers and cider with your meal and have a menu that consists mainly of dishes featuring their farmhouse cheeses.
They buy as locally, seasonally and freshly as possible from trusted suppliers and prepare everything they sell in their kitchens. Items marked with an asterisk* on the blackboards & menu – are products that can be taken away and enjoyed at home too.
Take a look at their website and don’t miss out on the Wedding “Cheese” Cakes for quirkiness – we just love the idea of rounds of cheese stcked and decorated instead of the more traditional cheese.
